EUREKA, CA –
Caltrans is teaming up with Baker Technical Institute, the Federal Highway Administration and the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board to host a Heavy Highway Construction Trades Academy in Eureka. Beginning on July 14, this comprehensive training academy aims to address the need for skilled trade workers and is limited to 20 participants. Successful applicants will receive free tuition.
This seven-week intensive academy is designed to cater to individuals with diverse experience levels, from those new to operating equipment and the construction trades to those seeking to further develop their skills. Through hands-on training with state-of-the-art technology, such as heavy equipment simulators and operating equipment under the guidance of professional industry instructors, participants will develop the skills necessary to progress in their careers.
The apprenticeship readiness program is tailored to prepare students for the construction industry. Participants will receive multiple certifications vital for obtaining and advancing in construction trade roles. The program also offers attendees the chance to network with hiring companies attending the training, thereby boosting their employment potential.“Overseeing this program, I’ve witnessed firsthand how access can change everything,” said Caltrans HEO Academy Program Manager Marjani Rollins. “This program isn’t just about learning to operate big machines, it’s about creating real opportunity.
